The Blog Experiment

I haven't been blogging much lately, but I have been on the web. This page is the quick version of my tumblelog, a collection of stuff the last 10 things I wrote, random pictures I uploaded, and/or things I find interesting across the net. (I don't necessarily always agree with things even if I find them interesting, so don't take it as an endorsement unless I say so, okay?) If you'd like to see the blog with the sexy layout and styling visit the actual home on mythicaldesign.tumblr.com. You can comment on the tumblr site itself (click on the date at the bottom of each entry) or you can click through and comment on the blog at phoenixpcd.wordpress.com, if it's a blog entry. You don't have to click all over the creation if you don't want to though. Comments here will reach me too.

  5. It remains to be seen whether excerpting standards from before the Internet age still apply. Mr. Ardia said that quoting “is often a sign of respect” online. “The norms are developing outside — or ahead of — the law,” he said.
  6. There will always be people complaining, and always be people complaining about the complainers,” said Peter Shankman, a public relations executive who specializes in social media. “But this makes it easier to put us together.

People say I look a lot like my mother, but I’ve always thought that I don’t look much like her or my grandmother at all, I’m basically the spitting image of my father and look more like his side of the family.

  8. 365:53 This is awesome: You thought this was going to be about the drudgery of chores didn’t you? But few things make me as happy as the simple pleasure of having a washer and dryer in the basement. I used to live in a 7 floor walk up and the nearest 24 hour laundry was 5 blocks away. The regular laundry usually closed before I got home. I routinely asked vendors to give me change in the form of every quarter they could spare. Still, I was always running out of quarters. Laundry was also a few hour commitment. You couldn’t exactly walk away and do other things because people had no problem taking your clothes out and dumping them on the floor. Now? I throw the laundry in whenever I have a minute or two and get the clothes out whenever I’m darn well ready. If I don’t get a quarter with my change it might affect my parking, but it doesn’t affect my clean clothes. I LOVE having a washer or dryer in the house.

  • 365:34 Snowglobe: We finally got some fluffy snow, and it’s still falling so tomorrow, I’m hoping for the pretty white blanket. This picture is a bit of a cheat and the are versions where I’m not completely obscured by the camera, or I managed to hide the camera well, but either the focus or the compostion is just really distracting. Then I ran out of light. I am in this shot, so I count it as a self portrait and I like the distorted perspective on Teddy. I also like that it looks like if you turned it upside down and shook it, you’d get snow!

It’s really apparent if you are approaching the city from the south, I’ve heard it doesn’t look like the pit of death from the north. I wouldn’t know. I’ve only approached the city from the south and the east and lived there right in the center. It looks equally industrial brown from these viewpoints.

  • 365:30 Last Minute: I went to bed early, then realized I hadn’t walked the dog. I got up, threw on a sweatshirt, and then realized I hadn’t taken a photo today either. Let’s say, I wan’t ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille.

  • 365:29 Desperate Measures: I got winded while hiking up a hill the other day. I’m being generous by calling it “hiking up a hill.” It was more like walking up a small slope. I try to stay active so I generally don’t get winded like that and I admit, it freaked me out. As is my custom when this happens I overcompensate and resort to actual exercise. I hate exercise. However, I would never survive on a diet and the very thought of a gym makes me miserable. A little time with the excerise ball seems like a passable alternative.

    1. Blue: I had so much fun playing with flash lights earlier, I decided to try again and not be so half-assed about it. This isn’t an entirely whole-assed attempt either, though. Had I really been thinking I would have tried to looked all pensive and tortured artistsy like the Joni Mitchell cover. And I would have unplugged the damn battery recharger. (Those ET landing lights on the side.) I could crop them out, but really, what’s the fun in that? For a moment, I considered loading the picture up in photoshop, rotating the hue to green and calling the pic ‘The Great and Terrible Oz’. They I reminded myself I actually had real, grown-up stuff I need to be doing instead. I like the one light experiments though so there may be a few more of these.

    2. My fellow Americans,” Bush said, “at long last, we have reached the end of the dark period in American history that will come to be known as the Clinton Era, eight long years characterized by unprecedented economic expansion, a sharp decrease in crime, and sustained peace overseas. The time has come to put all of that behind us.
    3. 365:17 Warm Fuzzies: I took hundreds of pictures today I’m sure. Most of them were craft pictures. Too bad yarn pr0n just isn’t my thing. Despite the fact that the camera was in my hands a good part of the day, I forgot to take a pic until 11:30. I’m disappointed that I didn’t get to the station in time to see the Obama inaugural train up close. That would have been an amazing 365 pic. As it stands though, I’m tired and in my slippers. I love these slippers, especially after a busy day. I thought about dusting off the dog fur for the pic, but that really wouldn’t be realistic!

    7. Deteriorata (National Lampoon)

(You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
      Deteriorata, Deteriorata)

Go placidly amidst the noise and waste,
and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
      Avoid quiet and passive persons,
unless you are in need of sleep.
      Rotate your tires.
      Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself;
      and heed well their advice,
      even though they be turkeys.
Know what to kiss - and when.
Consider that two wrongs never make a right,
      but that three do.
Wherever possible, put people on hold.
Be comforted, that in the face of all irridity and disillusionment,
and despite the changing fortunes of time,
there is always a big future in computer maintenance.

(You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
Whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.)

      Remember the Pueblo.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle, and mutilate. Know yourself.
If you need help, call the FBI.
Exercise caution in your daily affairs,
especially with those persons closest to you…
That lemon on your left, for instance.
Be assured that a walk through the seas of most souls would scarcely get your feet wet.
      Fall not in love, therefore,
it will stick to your face.
Gracefully surrender the things of youth:
the birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan -
and let not the sands of time get in your lunch.
      Hire people with hooks.
For a good time, call 606-4311, ask for Ken.
Take heart in the deepening gloom
that your dog is finally getting enough cheese.
And reflect that whatever misfortune may be your lot,
it could only be worse in Milwaukee.

(You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
Whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.)

Therefore, make peace with your god,
whatever you perceive him to be:
      hairy thunderer or cosmic muffin.
With all its hopes, dreams, promises, and urban renewal, the world continues to deteriorate.
      GIVE UP!

(You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
Whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.)

      Deteriorata

I ran across a copy of Desiderata today. Lovely poem, but I had a sugary inspiration overdose and needed an antidote. I knew about this National Lampoon parody of the original poem (from Dr. Demento), but I didn’t know about that Melissa Manchester was the background singer and Christopher Guest wrote the music.

    9. 365:13 Our walk: It’s hard to get in focus self portraits while moving, but I think it would be weird to pose. I wanted to get a picture of the thre of us but those photos were extremely out of focus. More so than this one.

    10. 365:12 Fresh Air: One of the good things about dogs is that you have built in breaks. They have to me walked and you have to get some fresh air. I’m not that optimistic about it when it’s raining.
